ANAPOLIS, Md. - A Maryland man whose father died after contracting six different infections in hospitals wants state lawmakers to require publication of infection rates.

Pennsylvania, Illinois, Florida and Missouri have already approved laws that require hospitals to report infection rates, though Pennsylvania is the only state collecting the information. Maryland is one of 25 states considering similar legislation this year.

Michael Bennett’s father, Mark Bennett, went into a Baltimore-area hospital a year ago with a moderate pneumonia. He was checked into five Baltimore-area hospitals before he died, four months later. He contracted six infections including a flesh-eating bacteria that took his left leg. He died two days after his 89th birthday.

Im Michael Bennett’s word’s, "He was betrayed by the people he trusted most."
