Dear Dr. Berkel:
Thank you for the materials dated September 3O, 1992, Long' Term Health Effects of Breast Implants, With Special Reference to Connective Tissue Disorders. This promises to be an interesting piece of research.
As you indicated in your letter and/or our telephone conversation, you have had discussions with both Health and Welfare Canada and the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation about support for this multi-phase project. To date, you have a commitment from the PSEF for approximately $500,000 of your $1,200,000 estimated budget.
I am pleased to offer additional financial assistance. As a first installment on our commitment for funding up to $700,000, enclosed find our check for $250,000. As we discussed, if you get support from other sources, our total contribution will be reduced accordingly. Rather than wait until your list of funding organizations has been finalized, I am sending this first check so that your work can get started immediately.
Sincerely,
Ralph R. Cook, M.D.
