Vaccine - puts end to HPV

Researchers found a new vaccine that brings the human papillomavirus-the prime cause of cervical cancer and genital warts to an end.

The report published in the current issue of ‘The Lancet’ Oncology proves that a vaccine was specially designed to kill HPV types linked to 70 percent of cervical cancers and 90 percent of genital warts.

The vaccine has also shown its effectiveness against genital warts, a sexually transmitted infection affecting around two per cent of adults. Ultimately, up to 70 percent of women are already suffering from this infection of HPV and are more likely to develop cervical cancer and genital warts.

The researchers tested the vaccine on 550 young women ages 16 to 23 years. Half of them received this new vaccine and the other half received a placebo vaccine. The result of the study shows that the new vaccine was more effective and deems 100-percent effective against both cervical cancer and genital warts. Headline: Breast Implants - Harsh or Useful

The U.S. health regulators makes a criticism of the silicone breast implant and says that these silicone gel breast implants are of incomplete value in measuring the risk of ruptures.

According to the New York Times report that up to 93 percent of the breast enhancement procedures burst within 10 years.

A team of plastic surgeons and other experts are continuously working to solve the problem with the help of various safety studies and pliability of the implants.

The committee shows their results by next Wednesday whether to recommend the operations or not.

The Food and Drug Administration follow the suggestions given by the committee. The panel voted in 2003 for the approval of these silicone implants but the chairman later urged the FDA to reject its recommendation because they need more information.

FDA releases the data in a statement but could not immediately be reached for further comment.
