A message from Diana Zuckerman

Thanks to Diana Zuckerman for the following message...Myrl

This is just to let you know that all of our hard work payed off, when the FDA advisory panel voted 5-4 AGAINST silicone gel breast implants today.

Advisory boards have met three times to decide whether or not to approve silicone gel breast implants. The first two times (1991 and 2003) they voted for approval but FDA decided not to approve them because of the lack of safety data. This time, the advisory panel finally voted against, agreeing with FDA scientists that the company had not proven that their products are safe.

Today's meeting was on implants made by Inamed. Tomorrow is implants made by Mentor. But even after that, the FDA commissioner will still make the final judgment.

Women (and a few men!) came from all over the country to express their views. Those of us questioning implant safety outnumbered the other side handily. Without everyone's help, this might not have happened. So, thanks to those of you who came, those of you who wrote testimony given by others, and those who prayed! It all worked.

Best wishes,

Diana
