In this 6-3 opinion, the Court held that "Congress' Commerce Clause authority includes the power to prohibit the local cultivation and use of marijuana in compliance with California law." Justice Stevens wrote the majority opinion, in which he was joined by Justices Breyer, Ginsburg, Kennedy and Souter. Justice Scalia filed a concurring opinion. Justices O'Connor, Rehnquist and Thomas dissented (with some quibbles over one section). Justice Thomas also filed a separate dissent.
