mmaslanik@fltimes.comWATERLOO — Evans Chemetics is being sold to the German firm Bruno Bock.
The sale, announced Wednesday by parent company Hampshire Chemical Corp., should not affect Evans’ 56 employees, said Rosemarie Rung, director of communications for Hampshire Chemical.
"We don’t expect any significant change," she said. "Current workers will be extended offers by Bruno Bock."
Hampshire Chemical Corp., a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Co., made the sale to "help fulfill our strategic commitment to a more focused portfolio," President Pam Butcher said in a statement.
"This is a good deal for Dow, whose strategy is based on portfolio management," Rung said. "Evans Chemetics didn’t fit the overall strategy."
Bruno Bock Chemische Fabrik GmbH & Co. KG, based in Hamburg, makes nearly the same products as Evans Chemetics. Most of the chemicals it produces are used in hair care products such as permanents, straighteners and depilatory creams.
Evans Chemetics started as an independent company in 1938. It was acquired by W.R. Grace & Co. and divested as part of Hampshire Chemical Corp. in 1992. Dow Chemical took over Hampshire Chemical Corp. in 1997.
The sale will be finalized on Monday. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
