Another sad Story - Aspartame..from Eeken the research is extrodinary

Artificial sweetener

Viva New Mexico! - Aspartame Finally Imperiled !

From Dr. Betty Martini,D.Hum - Bettym19@mindspring.com

The Nation's eyes are on New Mexico. State Statutes on poisonous substances and adulteration can preempt federal. New Mexico set a precedent for the world to follow. Hearing to ban aspartame in July.

We, the People, won !!

New Mexico October 5, 2005

On October 4th, New Mexico's Environmental Improvement Board (EIB) courageously withstood a determined fight to preempt investigation of a food poison. This is a first for the Nation! Ever since Don Rumsfeld called in his markers to seat an FDA Commissioner who would finally approve aspartame/NutraSweet/Equal, the political clout, cash and cover-ups of the multi-national aspartame industry have suffocated every challenge.

http://www.soundandfury.tv/pages.rumsfeld2.html

Ten years ago FDA stopped listing victim complaints when they passed 10,000, and FDA no longer admits there ever was a list. It named 92 symptoms including seizures and death. FDA is now NutraSweet's Washington Branch Office, faithfully promoting aspartame and publishing their propaganda, ignoring enormous injury to our people and rejecting a mountain of medical evidence.

Who ever heard a Federal agency saying it was wrong? In the showcase of effete corrupt bureaucracies FDA proudly sits right there beside FEMA.

"But aspartame met its match with the EIB!" Says Dr. Betty Martini, of Mission Possible International, "it spurned the outrageous objections of the Calorie Control Council and Ajinomoto, the world's largest manufacturer of aspartame and MSG against even discussing this grave issue and scheduled an entire week next July for considering the evidence." Said Cliff Stroud, Vice Chairman of the board: "If the Board does not have the authority to listen to people about concerns with the food supply, then the system is broken." Well, its not broke in New Mexico!

As Winston Churchill said: "This is not the end, but it is the beginning of the end." New Mexico is the first domino, and everybody in the aspartame business knows it. If reason and truth prevail against this most pervasive of all poisons, the health and lives of this great western state shall be protected and preserved by its alert, upright officials. Then the storm surge of resentment by innocent, unwarned and afflicted victims across America shall wash this sewage from our land.

A tremendous fight is coming from the malicious entrenched producers of this chemical weapon of mass destruction that was just named a "multi-potential carcinogen" by Italian researchers after a three-year study. Good government should be applauded. Personally, I praise and congratulate the members of the Environmental Improvement Board. Get the facts to protect your family and tell everyone you know. Support your legislators! Enter the fray! Few things are exciting as a good fight, and not to fight for what is right is to let evil conquer. Other heros to honor: Stephen Fox, the indomitable and relentless Petitioner who put this issue before the EIB and fought for years to decapitate this monster. He's an inspiration to all of citizen activism. Also, honor the principled and generous Attorney Stevan Douglas Looney, who fought pro bono, at his own expense, to valiantly defend the citizens of New Mexico and our first amendment rights of free speech. How fine!

Aspartame Industry Looking To Block NM Hearings

Albuquerque Journal, By Jackie Jadrnak - Staff Writer - jjadrnak@abqjournal.com

6 october 2005

SANTA FE - Gov. Bill Richardson doesn't think the federal government is doing enough to protect the public from possible dangers of aspartame. He said Wednesday that he supports a decision this week by the Environmental Improvement Board to hold hearings next summer on the safety of the sugar substitute, commonly known as Equal or NutraSweet. It is an ingredient in about 6,000 products. Asked if he is concerned aspartame may be harmful, Richardson answered, "Yes, from what I've learned." Critics of the sweetener have claimed it causes cancers and other health problems, despite the fact that it has been approved as safe in countries around the world.

T. J. Trujillo, Santa Fe attorney for a low calorie products industry group, said Wednesday he and his clients are still exploring whether they have any grounds for an immediate appeal to block the hearing. In the meantime, industry representatives will reach out to New Mexico government officials and policy advisers, he said. "We want to figure out their positions and work for a resolution." The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for determining the safety of food additives, approved aspartame in l981. Richardson said he doesn't want New Mexico to overstep its bounds.

But "I'm not saying we can't do anything about it," he added. Hearings next July might give some idea of what steps New Mexico should and could take, he said. FDA spokeswoman Kimberly Rawlings said officials there are aware of the New Mexico board's action and are keeping an eye on what happens next.

NOTE - From Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum

Founder, Mission Possible Intl - Bettym19@mindspring.com

" People interested in banning aspartame from your state you need to check on statutes on poisonous substances and adulteration. I would suspect they are the same in other states and countries. You have a precedent set. Let's get aspartame off this planet. I think its of interest that attorneys for Calorie Control Council, the aspartame industry front group, said they are exploring whether they have grounds for appeal to block the hearing. Since they push this toxin as safe, they should embrace this hearing. What are they afraid of? Perhaps the thousands and thousands of victims who are invited to New Mexico to testify ? Or maybe because now Italian researchers who declared malignant brain tumors, lymphoma and leukemia after a three year study have now added kidney cancer among other cancers. They call aspartame a "multipotential carcinogen".

" This goes along with what the FDA's own toxicologist, the late Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress. He said aspartame violated the Delaney Amendment which forbid putting anything in food you know will cause cancer because without a shadow of a doubt aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer. However, in original studies it also caused mammary, ovarian, testicular, pancreatic and thyroid tumors, for starters! "

" As we know, the Governor of California has outlawed pop in schools there. We hope Governor Richardson will now do the same in New Mexico, including any product with aspartame. PAT THOMAS REPORTS

Aspartame is the most controversial food additive in history. The most recent evidence, linking it to leukaemia and lymphoma, has added substantial fuel to the ongoing protests of doctors, scientists and consumer groups who allege that this artificial sweetener should never have been released onto the market and that allowing it to remain in the food chain is killing us by degrees.

Once upon a time, aspartame was listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent. Today it's an integral part of the modern diet. Sold commercially under names like NutraSweet and Canderel, aspartame can be found in more than 5,000 foods, including fizzy drinks, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, jams, sweets, vitamins, prescription and over-the-counter drugs. This means that there is a good chance that you and your family are among the two thirds of the adult population and 40 per cent of children who regularly ingest this artificial sweetener...............................................

Apartame Causes Cancer - More Proof

16 november 2005

CRC/ERF

Results of study on the carcinogenicity of the artificial sweetener aspartame

Summary

A long-term study to evaluate the potential carcinogenic effects of aspartame, an artificial sweetener used in more than 6,000 food and pharmaceutical products has recently been completed in the experimental laboratories of its Cancer Research Center of the European Foundation of Oncology and Environmental Sciences "B. Ramazzini" in Bologna, Italy.

The first results of the experiment were reported to the Ministry of Health and to the Superior Institute of Health of the Italian government in April 2005. In mid-June, these findings were then communicated to the European Food Safety Authority, the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center of Columbia University, the National Cancer Institute of the US government, and the National Toxicology Program of the US National Institutes of Health.

First results demonstrate that aspartame, when administered to rats for the entire life span, induces an increase of lymphomas and leukemias in female rats. The study is currently being published in the European Journal of Oncology ( http://www.ramazzini.it/fondazione/docs/AspartameGEO2005.pdf )

and final results will be presented at the 3rd international scientific conference of the Collegium Ramazzini, "Framing the Future in Light of the Past: Living in a Chemical World", to be held in Bologna, Italy from September 18-21, 2005, the proceedings of which will be published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Communication

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener consumed by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. It is used in over 6,000 diet products including soft drinks, chewing gum, candy, desserts, yogurt as well as in pharmaceuticals, in particular, syrups and antibiotics for children.

The average daily intake of aspartame is calculated to be about 2-3 mg/Kg of body weight, a figure which increases for children and women of childbearing age. Current daily intake allowed by regulatory bodies is 50 mg/Kg of body weight in the US and 40 mg/Kg of body weight the European Union.

Prior to the commercialization of aspartame in the 1970s, the manufacturers of the compound conducted various experimental studies on rats and mice to test its carcinogenicity. When taken together, the results of these studies were considered negative with regard to the carcinogenicity of aspartame. Doubts were however raised by some in the scientific community about the conduct of the experiments and the fact that some cases of malignant brain tumors were found among animals treated with aspartame while none were found among the control group.

Given the limitations of these studies and the ever-growing use of aspartame throughout the years, the European Ramazzini Foundation decided in the late 1990s to plan and perform an experiment that would, based on the total number of animals used, the number of dose levels studied, and the conduct of the experiment according to Good Laboratory Practices, provide an adequate evaluation of the potential carcinogenic effects of aspartame.

The CRC/ERF study was conducted on 1800 rats (900 males, 900 females) of the colony used for over 30 years by the Foundation. In order to simulate daily human intake, aspartame was added to the standard rat diet in quantities of 5000, 2500, 100, 500, 20, 4, and 0 mg/Kg of body weight. Treatment of the animals began at 8 weeks of age and continued until spontaneous death. A complete necropsy and histopathological evaluation of tissues and organs was then performed on each deceased animal, for a total of over 30,000 slides examined by microscope.

The first results of the experiment show:

1) a dose-related statistically significant increase of lymphomas and leukemias in female rats. This statistically significant increase was also observed at a dose level of 20 mg/Kg of body weight, a dose inferior to the accepted daily intake permitted by current regulations (50-40 mg/Kg of body weight);

2) that the addition of aspartame to the diet induces a dose-related reduction in food consumption, without however causing a difference in body weight between treated and untreated animals.

The above results demonstrate for the first time that aspartame is a carcinogenic agent, capable of inducing lymphomas and leukemias in female rats, including when administered at dose levels very close to the acceptable daily intake for humans. In addition, the data demonstrate that the integration of aspartame into the diet did not affect the body weight of treated animals compared with untreated animals.

As recognized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization, results of long-term bioassays conducted on rodents (rats and mice) are highly predictive of carcinogenic risk for humans. In light of this fact, the results of the CRC/ERF study on aspartame call for urgent reconsideration of regulations governing its use as an artificial sweetener in order to better protect public health, in particular that of children.

About sugar substitutes

IndyStar.com - November 30, 2005

Sweet'n Low: Saccharin (pink packet) is the "granddaddy" of sugar substitutes. It was discovered in 1879 and was used during both World Wars to make up for sugar shortages. It is 300 times sweeter than an equal quantity of sugar. Sweet'n Low's Web site claims it is the most popular sweetener in use today. Equal is second and Splenda is third, the company says. Saccharin has a long shelf life, and is stable at high temperatures (unlike aspartame), which makes it good for baked goods.......
