I'm obsessed with eclipses. It's probably my Dad's fault. When I was a kid, we had a number of science projects involving natural phenomena. We grew crystals in jars. We watched tadpoles become frogs. But the best experiment of all was when we made our sun visors, so that we could safely view the eclipse. After all, you can't fit the sun in a mason jar. It's like the biggest science experiment ever!

Guide to the Total Solar Eclipse
OK, so the eclipse is taking place in Africa, which isn't so easy for me to get to. But since the next one in the U.S. isn't due til 2017, I'm going to get excited over this one, anyway.

Ancient Eclipses
Ancient people had a lot of interesting ideas about eclipses. For instance, that it might be, you know, a giant snake trying to eat the sun. That's right: a giant snake. Hearing things like that makes me glad that I rotted my imagination by watching TV.

Solar/Lunar Eclipses in Islam
I'm not the only one enchanted by eclipses. Muslims look at eclipses -- as well as all natural phenomena -- as signs of Allah's majesty. There's even a special prayer, salatul-kusuf, to be said during the eclipse.
