NBC 7/39 News at 6 reply from Diane Zuckerman

Thank you, Diane for; your excellent response to this silicone article. We must not forget the, women that have died; due to silicone injections in there faces. Several have contacted me; who are deathly ill from silicone injections there PS's or dermatologists used on there faces. Which are now extremely distorted from the Silicone moving, or they were highly allergic to these silicone injections. Silicone is silicone in any form used on, humans and; the risk are very high an often cause horrible side effects our physicians fail to warn us about$

Why doesn't the, FDA, put, a policy against silicone injections into law in every state?

Dow, keeps experimenting on trusting, women with silicone; and getting by with there devastating Use of humans as guinea pigs! Who is supplying the silicone besides, Dow

that is used to inject in these un informed trusting, women? IMHO Every Dr.- dermatologist should be brought upon on charges before a medical board and, there license suspended! They are most diffidently aware- what silicone injections do And; the horrible harm they cause in most humans. We, are no longer lab rats for, Dow.

Warmly, and very gracious for your continued assistance,

Gigi-Karen

I am writing about the Special Report on silicone injections. I saw it online so I’m not sure when it aired yesterday.

You did a good job of balancing the risks and benefits, but I’m concerned that many viewers will not understand the risks.

A person’s face changes as he or she ages. When scars and wrinkles are filled with a permanent substance, such as silicone, it may look fine for a few years, if the doctor does a good job and the patients does not have an allergic reaction. But over time, the location of our wrinkles moves around. Dermatologists have informed our health research center that women can end up with disfiguring ridges on their faces where the wrinkles used to be (the wrinkles may now be a half inch to the side. One doctor referred to this as the "unicorn look" – having seen more than one woman who looked like she had a horn on her forehead where the wrinkle used to be.

The only way to remove the injected silicone is with surgery, which will create scars.

That is why silicone injections in the face are not and never have been approved by the FDA. Silicone injections are only approved for detached retinas – a very different medical issue. Silicone injections are banned in some states as too dangerous, but most states have no policy on them.

Any doctors currently doing this procedure should be asked if they have any patients who were injected 10 years ago or more. That is the key question.

Sincerely,

Diana Zuckerman, Ph.D.
