Controversy: Disclosing Medical Information in NYC
Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the USA. As of January 2006 the New York City Department of Health started a program to monitor diabetes control of more than half million people living with diabetes in New York City. New York City is creating a registry of glycosylated hemoglobin test results - a measure of diabetes control - identifying patients and physicians who ordered the test. The data will include the full name, date of birth, and address of the person tested and the date the test was performed.
