Many people say they can't seem to put a good book down.

And that seemed to be the case Thursday with the region's newest magazine. The first and only issue of reNeW Northwest was launched in Thunder Bay at the Intercity Shopping Centre and the gathered women couldn't help but read the articles right away.

The magazine was created by the Thunder Bay Breast Health Coalition to educate the public on how to reduce the risks of breast cancer and to live a healthy lifestyle.

It's information every woman should know, as statistics show one in nine Canadian women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime.

It's a 24-page magazine without any advertisements and was funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The magazine is 100 per cent Northern in content, including all of the models and authors.

Project coordinator Kathy Thompson, says the coalition has utilized pamphlets, web sites, and workshops and says this magazine seemed like the next step logical step in delivering breast health information.

‘’There's very serious topics...about smoking, about breast self-exam...and then there's light-hearted topics, for instance, how to fit yourself for a bra.’’

Thompson says they've been working on the project since January and 25,000 copies of the free magazine will be distributed throughout Northwestern Ontario when the magazine is released next week in other cities in the region. Thompson says they're issuing the magazine now as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
