Embattled class action firm Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman has brought aboard a new senior partner.

Matthew Gluck has joined the firm from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, where he had been a litigation partner since 1973.

The addition follows a number of partner departures from Milberg Weiss, which was indicted by federal prosecutors in May for allegedly paying kickbacks to plaintiffs. Partners David Bershad and Steven Schulman were also charged individually. Both men and the firm have pleaded not guilty.

Gluck said in a statement that he had known Milberg Weiss as an adversary for several years but had the "highest respect" for its "diligent and expert representation" of clients.

At Fried Frank, Gluck specialized in bankruptcy litigation and was adviser to the court in the restructuring of the Manville Trust, which was charged with paying claims against the Johns Manville Corp., once the world's largest asbestos manufacturer.

The move was made easier by the fact that Gluck, 64, had faced mandatory retirement at Fried Frank.

Earlier this month, senior Weil Gotshal partner A. Paul Victor, 67, joined Dewey Ballantine, also to circumvent a mandatory retirement.
