WASHINGTON (AP) - The government has has given two California companies permission to sell silicone-gel breast implants.

There had been a virtual ban by the government for 14-years because of safety concerns that still linger.

Both Inamed and Mentor won approval to sell new products.

The action opens use of the implants by women seeking to reconstruct or augment their breasts. Since 1992, the silicone implants had been available only as part of research studies.
