New Ultrasound Technique Could Replace Breast Biopsies
A new ultrasound technique called "elastography" could help doctors diagnose breast cancer without taking tissues through biopsy procedures.
Elastography provides immediate results by measuring the way breast lumps compress and bounce back.
In one study, the technique achieved nearly 100 percent accuracy in distinguishing between benign and malignant lumps.
In addition to offering fast results, elastography would provide cost savings and alleviate the discomfort and anxiety associated with breast biopsies.
