Breast augmentation as Christmas gift
NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The song used to say "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth," but today it's about breast augmentation, says a New York plastic surgeon.
Since the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of the widespread use of silicone breast implants, the request for breast augmentation has surged, according to Dr. Stephen Greenberg.
"We have witnessed a 20 percent increase in the request for breast augmentation procedures both from the prospective patient and from those wishing to purchase the procedure as a gift for a loved one," said Greenberg.
Greenberg attributes the increase to the more natural feel of the silicone implant, as well as diminished concerns based on 14 years of study results and the search for the unique gift item.
"Many people had been undecided about breast augmentation, and the FDA approval really helped them make up their mind," said Greenberg. "Gift certificates are always popular as a gift item, and this year a great deal of them are being issued for breast augmentation."
