A doctor who was the subject of a series of Eyewitness News investigative reports surrounding the distribution of pain medication at her New Orleans East clinic was indicted by a federal grand jury on 37 counts, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten announced Friday.
Dr. Jacqueline Cleggett is charged with prescribing large amounts of controlled substances for people who didn’t have sufficient need for the drugs.
Cleggett’s clinic was the subject of Eyewitness News reports beginning in 2001. At the time, surveillance video showed people coming from and going to the office, even in the early morning hours. Neighbors of the clinic complained about the situation.
Investigators contend that Cleggett’s office illegally distributed prescription drugs, including OxyContin, Methadone, Xanax and Hydrocodone.
