Score One for Patien

February 2, 2007

Dear Karen,

We won!

After a long day of hearings, the Maryland House Judiciary Committee killed House Bill 48. As we told you yesterday, this bill would have created unnecessary obstacles and significant costs for people injured by medical error. Linda Andros, our Legislative Counsel, stayed all afternoon and into the evening in Maryland's Capitol to make sure she had her turn to testify against the bill.

You can read her delivered testimony here:

This is a victory for Marylanders and all Americans who believe that people injured by the negligence of others deserve their day in court. The insurance industry and healthcare lobbyists lost this one.

We will continue to keep you informed about threats to our access to courts and how you can help fight them.

Thank you,

Laura MacCleery
