  • Management of Statin Drug Side Effects

    New Page added today:
Management of Statin Drug Side Effects
The scope of statin associated side effects we are seeing is extremely broad, reflecting the effect of these drugs on multiple physiologic and biochemical pathways.
It is necessary to first understand the mechanisms of action of statins before a management of side effects plan can be implemented.

    50th Anniversary Project Man High
    Dr David Simons

I was a new arrival at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine back in 1957 when David Simons returned from Crosby.
In Operation Man High, he had carried himself by means of a stratospheric balloon to the radiation environment at 101,516 feet ( almost 20 miles and at the time a new human altitude record ) for more than a day. His effort was rewarded by numerous hits registered by emulsion plates strapped on his arms.
The radiation technicians told him he had been peppered by high-energy particles passing silently through the gondola walls. With a broad smile he invited me to see his black mice from previous balloon ascents - they were a startling salt and pepper! Every hit from one of these cosmic rays to a hair follicle had caused the hair to turn white. This was obvious DNA change from just 20 miles up. What was outer space going to be like, I wondered?
The 50th Anniversary of this pioneering flight is August 19, 2007 and the celebration will be held in Crosby, Minnesota and I shall be there with Dr David Simons.
The general public are welcome to attend this weekend long event. A link to the official site is on the Project Man High page.
