Diana’s letter:

Dear Mr. Adubato;

I am sorry to say I did not see the "Today Show" piece that aired about teens and plastic surgery.
I too, like Cindy Fuchs-Morrissey from Macon Missouri, received silicone breast implants for reconstruction purposes. I was 29 years old when I made the decision to increase the size of my breasts. Back in 1967, when I had the surgery, it costs me $1,000.00 to have them implanted, and in 1993, when they were removed, it cost more than $14,000. Both breast implants were grossly ruptured. The scar tissue capsules that forms (grows) around the implants was also ruptured, so there was free, runny, liquid silicone throughout my entire chest cavity. This free liquid silicone was so intermingled within my own breast tissues, that most all my natural breast tissue had to be removed. I had a masectomy at 43 years of age, not from breast cancer or breast disease, but because of ruptured silicone breast implants that I got to improve my self-image, which never really did improve my self-image or self-confidence about myself.

What I have learned as I have gotten older and wiser is that self-confidence and a positive self-image comes from self acceptance and being happy with who you truely are, not the size of one's breasts. This is something that young, naive girls/women don't realize, nor would they listen after being told this. Being that I have been support group leader for several years for thousands of women around the world that have had devastating consequences from having silicone breast implants, most of these women have said they too thought that breast implants would make them complete, whole, and happy, but found that this does not happen.

The "new & improved version" of silicone breast implants, is the same recipe, just more catalyst added for a thicker version of the silicone gel. Let me tell you what women with the "new" implants are experiencing from the women that have contacted us recently: the silicone shells are still rupturing and the silicone gel is "chipping off in hunks". These women are having these "new" implants explanted after having them for only a few months or a few years. Women are not being told by the plastic surgeons that they are suppose to have MRI's regularly, which is one of the stipulations set forth by the FDA after approval of the devices. The MRI's will cost the women appoximately $2,500 - $3,500 and will not be paid for by insurance. Women/girls are not told all the facts that go along with having these breast implants, such as repeated surgeries, the need for repeated MRI's, the hidden cancers behind the implants that do not show up in mammography, the possible inability to breast feed and some are not even told about the on-going study by the manufacturers., which they are supposed to be a part of. The doctors and the manufacturers know that the study is really only an "illusion of a study". Many of the problems with the "new" breast implants will not be identified, if many women are not part of the study. This way, they can continue to sell the devices for years and years with big profits.

What has been shared with you by others and myself, is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much that could be shared with persons who are truely interested in this issue. The corruption and control pertaining to the breast implants controversy, that has affected thousands of women, needs to be exposed.

Sincerely,
Diana Reynolds

Sandra’s letter:

Mr. Adubato

I was very happy to hear your segment on the reality of plastic surgery I am hoping the FDA and other health regulatory agencies were listening.

To me it is criminal how these plastic surgeons have chosen to take a very gifted talent they have and then choose to use it to destroy so many women lives and all for there own greed. What is also disturbing is how the FDA puts tainted panels together just as Canada did to make sure the breast implants were approved and it is about time the FDA was shown for approved and it is about time the FDA was shown for shown now with there track record only proves our point about that office.

The FDA is bought and paid for by the manufacturers and pharma companies and when there own Doctors resign because of not towing there agenda they need to be investigated, had this FDA been watched over many years ago we would not have so many injuries, deaths etc from implant operations.

There is many children who have also suffered and under the Bush Republican agenda they always talk about the children whether the morning after pill or abortion so my question is why would this same group of people feel it is OK to poison an unborn child or a breast fed child?

I hope more people like you show how unrealistic these reality shows really are and follow up an the women they have operated on I can guarantee you there will be women suffering just as many of us has.

My name is Sandra Laliberte after a bilateral mastectomy when I was 28 and immediate reconstruction with silicone breast implants my life became a living hell and nightmare to date I have had to have 19 operations, been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, arthritis, granulomma annularem, meniers disease, neurogenic bladder requiring fulltime cathing, severe skin problems severe asthma. This is to name only a few things wrong. I am totally disabled now at age 46 and on disability. The devastating affects of these procedures are very real and very underlooked by most media so once again thank you.

Sincerely
Sandra Laliberte
