Breast self examination (BSE) is to be performed each month in addition to an annual mammogram or a clinical exam. Knowing your cyclical changes, what is normal for you, and what regular monthly changes in the breast feel like is the best way to keep an eye on your breast health. It takes just 15 minutes a month, and should be done no matter what your menopausal status is. Follow the pictures and text to do your BSE.

Metastatic breast cancer is diagnosed when cells from the original breast tumor have spread beyond your breast to other parts of your body. Even if cancer cells from your breast migrate through your blood stream or lymph system to the lungs, bones, brain, liver, or skin, it is still called breast cancer. I asked Dr. William Gradishar, an oncologist at Feinberg School Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, about statistics and treatment for metastatic breast cancer.
