SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — A Dow Chemical Co. engineer says the company knowingly submitted bad data about toxic levels in the Tittabawassee River to Michigan environmental regulators.
Priscilla Denney's allegations are made in a whistleblower lawsuit filed in Saginaw County. Denney says she was demoted after raising concerns about the data.
Dow spokeswoman Jennifer Heronema denies the Midland company demoted Denney. Heronema tells The Detroit News that Dow stands by the data it submitted, calling it accurate and reliable.
Dow admits discharging cancer-causing dioxins into the water from its Midland plant for years. It has spent months planning and removing chemicals along a six-mile stretch of the river.
Dow was served with the lawsuit last week. It seeks $25,000 in damages.
