Singulair & Mood Changes, & Suicide - Warning! Urgent

I was on this medication, it is normally prescribed for asthma - however, I had stopped it when my allergist informed me I do not have Asthma. Then I visited him over a month ago and he instructed me to be sure and take the Singulair so I did because my breathing volume out was greatly reduced (yes, the mold is here again from an unaddressed roof leak by my slumlord landlords). I was feeling really great following a series of colonics, no depression, lots of energy and stamina. Over the past month, gradually, I have lost my energy and have become depressed. This morning - my intuition told me NOT to take the Singulair and sure enough I heard on the news about the probable link between Singulair, Suicide and depression. I called my allergist's office this afternoon and told them my suspicions linking Singulair and my mood changes. I was told to immediately stop taking Singulair - which I did this morning. I suggest if you are taking this medication to immediately contact your prescribing doctor.

FDA, Merck investigating possible link between asthma drug Singulair and suicide

March 27, 2008: 11:32 AM EST

NEW YORK, Mar. 27, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- The Food and Drug Administration Thursday said it is investigating a possible association between the use of Merck (NYSE:MRK) & Co.'s asthma drug Singulair and mood changes and suicidal behavior.

The FDA said it is working with Merck to evaluate a possible link and that it has requested the company to evaluate Singulair study data for more information about suicidality and suicide. The FDA is also reviewing the post-marketing reports it has received of patients who have reported behavior or mood changes or suicidal ideation after taking Singulair.

The FDA estimates it may take up to nine months to complete the evaluations, and will communicate conclusions and recommendations to the public as soon as the review is complete.
