Dear Breast Implant Friends,
NSIF Mission Statement:
To motivate, educate, and assist all people suffering from the effects of silicone toxicity to develop and implement individualized, realistic self-sufficiency action plans to take control over improving their health. In February, 1995, we received our charter as a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Foundation for the purposes of education and medical research. We took this step after much careful thought and personal reflection, and with much encouragement from the Breast Implant Survivors in Texas and other states, from all walks of life. Regardless of our many differences, we have one strong bond in common; and that is the devastating effects of breast implants on our overall health. For six years we have been a strong advocate for causes we believe in, and we believe we can continue to be a strong advocate for Breast Implant Survivors.
We continue to hear poignant reminders of the need to protect and educate potential future breast implant candidates, as well as those just discovering their illnesses and the probable risks of all forms of breast implants. We've heard passionate pleas for stronger ways to keep breast implants off the market and provide Total Informed Consent for those who choose to use breast implants. And we have heard real concerns about the quality of research and smart ideas to increase and expedite the amount and urgency of research that must be completed.
Many women have expressed that we must stop the affects of Multi-Billion Dollar Corporations' efforts in Congress to take away a woman's rights to justice. All women's health issues have suffered far too long. We totally agree.
The more we listen and learn, the more excited and determined we should become about the progress we could make: for children, for families, for women worldwide. We hope you share our determination because there is a tremendous challenge ahead of us and we'll need all the help you can give. Let's show the Multi-Billion Dollar Corporations that they are now dealing with politics of the past.
We have all been through a lot together. We have pulled together many times, often in the face of strong opposition from the manufacturers and their "Hired Guns". We have come together to make our voices heard on all issues of vital importance surrounding the "Breast Implant Controversy". We hope you'll agree because of this, we have created more public awareness in all communities: medical, legal, and social images of women's bodies. We hope you'll agree the Breast Implant Controversy is in a better position than it was in 1990.
Today, the overall women's health campaign faces new challenges, and we hope you will face it with us. We know for all the twists and turns, the disappointing moments and the exhilarating ones, campaigns can be wonderful shared experiences. Our hope is that, working together, we can build that kind of campaign, and by our example, teach young women about the importance of standing up for what you believe in, regardless of the Evil Huge Corporations.
You may not be able to travel to Washington, D. C. And other places with us, yet in a very real sense, we're counting on you to be by our sides. Please stay in touch with us by phone, fax, letters, or e-mail.
We hope you will help us launch our efforts for the latter half of 2000, and the coming year, 2001, by sending your membership donations and sending as generous a financial donation as you can afford. Together, we believe we can make great progress for the hundreds of thousands of breast implant harmed women of this nation, and other countries.
We appreciate your friendship, and look forward to hearing your ideas, and we thank you for your support. Getting off to a strong start for 2001, and strong finish of 2000, is very important. Your decision to help now is urgent!
Most sincerely,
Martha & Karen
